You were my home away from home.

A Letter To My Hometown Youth Group
Savannah Simpson

Dear youth group,

Starting in middle school, I was a lost girl trying to figure out what I wanted to do in my life and who I wanted to surround myself with. I felt like there was something more than just the life I was living, and I was curious. It was by God’s grace and wonders that I found friends who encouraged me to go to their youth group. I didn’t know how much that one step would change my life, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the impact this youth group has made in my life.

I think about all the changes that happened with the youth group through the years, good and bad, and no matter what, I see how God completely protected our youth group and the hearts of the students. Sometimes it may have felt like the youth group was falling apart, but in reality, this youth group was just getting stronger.

The reality is that youth group has been my home away from home. There was nothing better than going to church, seeing my friends, and sharing the love and deep interest of the Lord through fellowship. Through this, I found lifelong friends who have continuously taken care of me through every struggle and hardship, while loving me and never giving up on me, even when I gave up on myself.

With this, I am so grateful for the opportunities this youth group has given me. Through missions trips and conferences, I have experienced the world and have been able to see God’s creation in action. God has always provided me financial support to go on these trips, and if I could I would experience all of this all over again.

These have made a great impact on my life, but most importantly, this youth group has been the gateway to my relationship with the Lord. If I never came that fateful day in middle school, I would have never been exposed to the wonders of the Lord that the youth group showed so deeply. I also wouldn’t have even been interested in furthering my relationship with him, but through church I found that I can rest my hope and trust in the Lord because after all, he has blessed me immensely. Even though I may have strayed from God sometimes and took his love for granted, I have always found my way back to him with the help of this youth group and the resources it has given me.

Without youth group, my life would be nothing. I would be living for nothing. Thank you for transforming my life and helping me find God. I don’t know where I would be if youth group was never a part of my life.

I miss youth group more than anyone will ever know, but I am thankful for where this youth group has taken me.

Love always,

Me

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
