A Letter To My Future Son

Hey there babycakes, I bet you're looking super cute right now. Knowing myself, I probably have you dressed in some skinny jeans with some hip converse….maybe even a beanie too. First things first, I hope you know how loved and cherished you are. I hope you know that I would do anything in the world for you and that you can come to me always, for anything and everything! Below I have left you some tips for life. Please use these tips as a guideline to be the best man you can be. Please also remember them through the ups and downs of life. I love you to the moon and back.

Tip #1: Don't ever forget that life is temporary.

I pray to God that by the time you're in middle school, they will have a required class about this. All situations and hard times are temporary. Bullying, bad grades, getting grounded, breakups…It is all so temporary and those feelings of pain will surely fade away. Never make rash decisions on a feeling or emotion. Good times always follow the bad so keep pushing through and know you always have me by your side to cheer you on!

Tip #2: Never smoke cigarettes.

This one is just common sense. Don’t be gross.

Tip #3: Treat humans with respect.

As my mom (your grammy) used to say, “kill em with kindness.” Always remember that words are very powerful and can really affect how someone feels about themselves. Never use your words for hate, but only for love. Treat all humans, and especially the ladies, with respect and always be genuine. Take extra time and effort to show people you care…It will only be beneficial for you in the long run.

Tip #4: Put God first.

Make God the center of your life, and soon enough, everything else in your life will revolve around honoring him. Everything from friendships, to relationships, to meeting strangers in a coffee shop will become much more meaningful if you have God as your source of joy and energy.

Tip #5: Be different.

Doing what everyone else is doing is so boring. Be unique and do exactly what you want to do.

Tip #6: Don’t be afraid to get dirty.

My best memories from my childhood are probably when I was the dirtiest. Anywhere from mudding in my four-wheeler to finger painting my entire body, life is for making messes and having fun!

Tip #7: Always have hope.

The last, and possibly most important life tip I could ever give you, is to never give up hope. Our world is corrupt, but not all people are. There will always be good people in the world, so find the best ones and hold on to them tight! Inspire others with the hopefulness you have for the future. Be brave and always know that the best is yet to come!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
