A lot of freshmen come to college and only have one other roommate, but luckily, I was fortunate enough to have two. I never imagined living in a tiny 12-by-14 foot room with another person, yet alone two complete strangers that could possibly have a criminal history. But I can honestly say, I’m so damn lucky. When I first found out that I was going to be living with you, you best believe I stalked everything and everything about you, your family, and your best friends -- Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I had to figure out who I’d be living with for the next nine months of my life… I basically knew you before I even met you.
Coming to a college where I knew hardly anyone, it was nice to know that I would at least have my roommates. College can be extremely difficult for many people mainly because there is nothing to prepare you for what is about to be thrown your way. High school does not prepare you for the insane amount of work or the long nights studying you will soon face. The dining hall food is nothing compared to your mom’s home-cooked dinners. And having your own room growing up surely does not prepare you for what you experience during your dorm-style life. So here's to my freshman year roommates!
Thank you for being understanding with me all the times I’ve been my stubborn self.
Thank you for sharing your food with me.
Thank you for telling me when my outfits were ridiculous and not letting me go outside if my foundation wasn’t blended.
Thank you for coming back to save me when I forgot my key and was locked out of our room.
Thank you for letting me turn on the air conditioning and bearing through when in reality, it was actually pretty cold.
Thank you for not hating me when I came in late at night and was annoyingly loud.
And on the other hand, thank you for understanding that I treasure my sleep and not being annoyingly loud.
Thank you for going to the dining halls with me when I didn’t want to go alone.
Thank you for helping me through those depressed states and making sure I was always OK.
Thank you for letting me play my music out loud, even though I know y’all didn’t agree with my music choices.
Thank you for telling me which professors not to take and recommending the great ones.
Most importantly, thank you for facing the harsh reality of college with me. I probably couldn’t have done it if I didn’t have amazing, supportive people like you.
I didn’t know you before we started living together, but it has honestly been one of the most life-changing experiences of my life. You guys have helped me realize that it’s not always about what I want and that it is extremely important to respect other people's opinions and decisions.
I'm so glad I can count on you, and I can't wait to experience the rest of college with you. Have an amazing summer, and I'll see you in a few short months.
