A letter to my family tree,

Composed of different leaves all fallen from different trees, we are different shapes, different sizes, and were all brought here by a different breeze.

As I sat with the list of bigs in front of me, I knew exactly who I was going to put. Nervous that I would not get her, I cast all fears away, and focused on the fact that I would get someone special because all of my sisters are lovely. Little did I know that in a few short weeks I would be taken into the perfect family for me, exactly the one I wanted.

The past couple of weeks we have gone through a lot. Although not all of it has been the most pleasant, you all have opened my eyes and shown me what it means to be optimistic and courageous. What y'all didn't know is that these are two characteristics that I crave and feel like I have gained because of y’all. For this I will forever be grateful.

We have already experienced times of laughing until our faces are blue and our stomachs are tight. We have seen the tears stream down our faces. We have seen both extremes and because of this, I feel that we can get through anything.

Jensen, I want to tell you that I appreciate your presence greatly. When you walk through the door you bring nothing but positivity, something that I lack, and have already gained a little bit of because of you. Thank you.

Hannah, what can I say, you just brighten my day. I know that when I am sad I can go to you, for you have already been my shoulder to lean on. My favorite part of you is your touch. When I come in contact with you I feel as if my body has been given all the love in the world because you are so genuine. Thank you.

Aunt Caitie, you are the best listener. Remember that night on your futon? I simply needed someone to talk to. And when I was done talking, you stayed and held me until everything was okay. This is something I will never be able to repay you for. Thank you.

Kaitlin, I know you just came into our family and I do not know you all that well but I look forward to our future and getting to know you more. Thank you.

Lauren, sweet twin, I love you because you have so much compassion built in your little self. You are a tender hearted, little southern belle, and I think the world of you. I admire you for your ability to hold your head up and always take the high road. Thank you.

Summer, my big, when I met you at orientation and we talked about Florence and the Machine, I immediately knew I wanted you in my life. You talked about her like she was a character in your favorite book. I knew from that moment that you were someone that holds people very close to your heart. And you have. You big, have held me together this semester. I can’t do it without you. Thank you.

Emily, Gbig, I love your generosity and your sincerity. You have shown me what it looks like to be a Delta Zeta. Our chapter wouldn't be the same without you and neither would our family. You are an amazing person inside and out. Thank you.

Everyone, I know the list goes on and on to people I haven't met, just know that I am here for all of you and appreciate you all for starting this family tree that I adore profoundly. I love you all so, so much. Thank you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
