Throughout your life time, you’ll find that people come and go all of the time. It sucks, though, when the person leaving is your best friend. And although not every friendship ends on a bad note, either way, the ending is always the worst. There are still times when I want to call up my ex-best friend just to tell her what’s going on in my life, but then I realize how awkward that would be and think that maybe not being friends is for the better. Even though our friendship ended, there are just a few more things that I’d like to tell my ex-best friend.
Dear My Ex-Best Friend,
I know we don’t talk anymore, and when we do, it’s kind of weird, but I hope you know that I’m proud of all that you’ve accomplished. I know that things got rough between us towards the end, and although I am regretful, it gave us time to grow up and realize a lot. Like I said before, I know we don’t talk, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t think of you often. Heck, we pretty much grew up together. From sports to friends to everything else that you can name, you were there. It really sucked that we couldn’t make our friendship last like we always thought we could, but just know that I don’t regret the years we spent together.
We may have gone our separate ways, but that doesn’t mean that you didn’t matter to me. Because you did—you really did. I hated when we fought, and I’ll never forget the day we decided to call it quits. But from the years that we’ve spent apart, I think we’ve both learned a lot about ourselves and what we need out of our lives. From the looks of it, you seem pretty happy and that makes me happy. Just because we aren’t friends anymore, that doesn’t mean I wished unhappiness upon you. I always hoped and still do, that you’re doing well and doing everything that you’d always wanted to do.
Although we are strangers now, I will always have the memories that you and I shared together. And to be completely honest, they’re some of my favorites. I’m glad that I got the chance to grow up with you and experience all of the angsty teen years that came along with high school. I’m also glad that I was able to confide in you when we were friends, and I know that you’ve kept some of my secrets till this day. You were my person for the longest time, and for that I’m thankful. I could never hate you, and I hope that you don’t hate me, either. And maybe one day, when we’ve grown up some more, you and I can go back to being the friends we once were. But until then, good luck with everything that you’re doing, and I hope that you’re truly happy. I hope you follow through with your dreams and get the life that you deserve.
Remember, I still miss you and wish that things weren’t like this, and if you ever need me, I’ll still be here.
Always,
Your ex-best friend
