"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than loves himself"
-Josh Billings

Dear pup,

Growing up, there was no one who compared to what you were to me. You taught me responsibility, loyalty, to love unconditionally and to enjoy the journey.

Sure in the summer when it was my job to watch you all the time, it was annoying sometimes. But taking you for walks, bathroom breaks and playing with you showed me from a young age how to care for someone other than myself. Looking back on it, I would not really change it for the world and I thank you for sticking by my side while learning such a crucial ability.

I never have met another creature who loved me as much as you. You would jump up on the couch and curl up with me whenever I was sick, somehow you just knew. If I seemed a little sad one day you would give me a few extra licks to let me know that you were there. Even if I seemed angry with you earlier in the day for barking too much, you wouldn't hold it against, you would pretend it never happened and come over for a few scratches behind your ear.

High school truly gets the worst of everyone, and I definitely know what it's like to experience people go behind your back and hang you out to dry. The thing about you is that you would never leave my side. Whether I would be gone for a few days or take away your bone, you still considered me your companion. You always had my back and you showed me what it was like to always have someone there for me.

The last thing you taught me, is to enjoy the journey. Dogs are not around our whole lives, just parts of them. From as far back as I can remember you were a part of the family. The day you went to heaven, it broke my heart. All I could think was thank God that I had spent the day laying in the grass with you reading a book. I wished that I could just have a few more days to do things with you that I knew you loved. It taught me to savor every moment that you get to spend with someone.

I feel bad for people who did not grow up with a pet, because you were one of my best friends. I cannot wait until I get to see you again one day, bud.

Love,

Your Best Friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
