Dear Miley,
I remember the first time I met you. My parents sent us on a scavenger hunt around the house, which led us out to the shed where you waited impatiently. You were so small, yet full of joy; overly excited and bouncy. That's when you got your name. We decided on Miley because we got you from miles and miles away, from a shelter who said you would not grow any bigger than the size of the palm of our hands. Boy were they wrong.
Eight years later and here you are. Still overly excited, extremely bouncy, and full of so much joy. However, you are not so small after all. At 15 pounds and more than a foot tall on your hind legs, you stand as my best canine friend. Our bond is something I'll never be able to replace.
Miley, you've been an extreme source of happiness for me. You've seen the good and you've seen the bad. I can't explain to people the way you read my emotions. When I'm happy, you're happy and jumping all over me. When I'm sad, you're sad and you cuddle with me.
It's so hard to be disappointed in you when you tear out the trash or drink out of the toilet, because you're too great (and adorable) to be mad at. I remember my most proud moment was when you finally learned how to use your food machine to feed yourself. I showed everyone that came in our house. I still do to this day. I enjoy having you do your set of tricks; high five right, high five left, give me 10, sit pretty, lay down, roll over and play dead. I'm not sorry for all the times I've made you perform these tricks for visitors. I am, however, sorry if I've ever hurt you or upset you, and I'm sorry I had to leave for college.
Thank you for being my cuddle buddy at night, thank you for watching hours and hours of Netflix with me. Thank you for following me around the house, sitting in front of the shower while I bathe, and sitting next to me while I prepare for my day. Thank you for letting me vent and talk to you like an absolute fool. And thank you, more than anything, for always being excited to see me when I come home. Nothing compares to the love you receive from a dog when you return from a long absence such as college.
Most importantly Miley, thank you for being my best canine companion.
