A Letter To My Big Before I Get My Little

"She is half my soul and half my heart; without my big I'd fall apart"

Dear Biggie,

A year ago we found each other, and you have truly changed me for good. We have had many adventures, tons of therapy sessions and countless laughs. I wouldn't trade these experiences for anything and I can't imagine anyone else having been by my side through all of them. That being said, your little is growing up! Now it's my turn to be everything you have been for me.

I've never had a biological sister, so when I joined this sorority and suddenly found myself with over 100 of them, well... it was a little overwhelming. But from our very first "date" I knew you were my big. You've taught me what it means to be a sister.

But now I find myself a little overwhelmed again. The idea of getting a little of my own is, well, terrifying. You've made being a little easy, enjoyable, and everything I ever imagined it would be. So I know how to be a little, but do I know how to be a big? If I'm truly ready for this, it's only because you've taught me how to be an ideal big.

Don't worry that I'll forget you or that I'll love her more than you. While she will soon be a part of both of our lives, she hasn't been there for everything. She wasn't there for my freshman year, but you were. And because you helped me make it through freshman year of college, I know how to help her too. You guided me through what possibly will be considered the scariest year of my life.

I know she's truly my little because when I met her, it felt exactly like when I met you. You will always hold a special place in my heart, just like she will! So thank you for the past year, and for all the years to come! And I can't wait for all the memories we will have with my soon-to-be little!

Love Always,

Little

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
