A Letter To My Best Friend As We Prepare To Go Our Separate Ways
Joelle Jones

Dear Best Friend,

For the last 11 years we have sat just a few seats away from each other in class. For the last 18 years we have lived just 10 minutes away from each other. However, in a few short weeks that is all about to change. You'll go one way and I'll go another, but no matter where we end up, I'll always be here for you.

We have been through a lot together in the 11 years that we have been friends. We tackled the most in our four years of high school together. Break ups, math class, chemistry class, dances, contests, vacations. You name it, we did it. Honestly, I don't think we could've made it without each other. Being 2.5 hours from each other is going to be a big adjustment for both of us. It'll be awhile before we get to go on our random car rides where we have the deepest talks, get out of bed and go straight to The Raider because we're "starving", or just lay around and watch Grey's together. I must admit that I haven't appreciated these times half as much as I should, but they're the memories that I'll hold closest while we're apart.

These next four years that we are apart will shape us into who we were made to be. There will be a lot of difficult times during these years, but you can always count on me as a friend. If you need me to call and tell you that you can pass your finals, I will. If you need me to drive 2.5 hours for a lunch date, I will. No matter what you need or what time of the day it is, I'll be there. Although we aren't a few seats down or 10 minutes away, I promise I will always be your best friend.

Who would have known that a friendship this strong would come from second grade drama? I couldn't be more blessed to have been on the other side of your anger filled glares 11 years ago. Thank you for shaping me into who I am today. Without you I wouldn't have survived high school. Thanks for the laughs and memories to last a life time. You and our friendship mean the world to me. Thank you for being my best bud, pal, and in true "Grey's Anatomy" fashion, my person.

Love Always, Joelle

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
