Dear America,

The N-word is now in our society one of the foulest words in the English language. It has been for quite some time. People use this word to offend others and sometimes (especially in today’s younger generation) it is used as a joke. To state clearly so there is no confusion, I am not racist nor do I support the use of that specific term. But America, a joke among friends is a joke among friends. Three years ago in Karlie’s (Miss Teen USA 2016) world on Twitter, there were tweets in which she used this word jokingly referring to her friends.

Today Americans on all social media’s have been taken by the storm and now are calling out for her crown to be “ripped from her head” as many people on Instagram have said. Among these comments have been other very vulgarities such as “ugly b****," “racist b****," “trash w****” and the list goes on. On Instagram, I stood up for Miss Teen USA stating that people needed to forgive her for her past actions and that she has obviously grown up since then… and for that, I have been called every cuss word in the book. That I am now just another “racist white b****." That I now “support racism." May I remind you America that she is a teenager and I (having lived through that same stage as everyone else living has or will go through) can attest that people do make mistakes at that age. What is so surprising is that people actually took the time to root through her Twitter account to actually make her look bad. How bad can your life be that grown adults are attacking a teenage girl over something she said three years ago? Since that time she has matured and has grown up into a beautiful young lady who is worthy to be a role model for all of the youth in America. It is clear why she has been awarded the title of Miss Teen USA 2016.

In a lot of people’s minds, however, they must play victim and attack Karlie who has achieved an amazing thing. America, she has in no way attacked you or your culture or your fellow American, so why is it so important that you attack her? Stop victimizing yourselves over a few tweets between a few 14-year-olds.

What is even more amazing America is that every day you listen to songs on drugs, rape, with the use of vulgar language including the use of the N-word. I am guilty; I have too. Most of us in the younger generation do listen to this type of music. However, no one screams Bloody Mary at Meek Mill or Jay-Z for saying the N-word (both the -er and –a terms), or at any other artist that we praise so highly for amazing music that is soaked in sin, violence, drugs, sex, the N-word, etc. … hmmmmmmmmmm food for thought? I’ll just leave that here for you to marinate on.

America, I am in no means condoning her past actions, but we do need to look at the person she has become today. She has apologized, for that is all she can do at this point.

To Miss Teen USA, keep your head high girl, this storm shall pass. I, like so many other people in America, love you and think you are an absolutely amazing young lady. Congratulations once again love.

And again America, thank you for proving once again that you do not know how to stop playing the victim.

PS: This is directed to the people that have blatantly called Miss Teen USA Karlie Hay out and have been rude, vulgar and have acted like animals. Calling a teenager such vulgar names will never be OK, and harassing her on social media or on any platform is not OK. You should be ashamed of yourselves. For those just learning about the incident, please understand her tweets were from three years ago, were jokes among friends and that also she has apologized. Access the situation before judging someone in any and every instance

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
