A Letter To America After Inauguration

We've got to come together.

A Letter To America After Inauguration

Here we are, nearing the end of January with a new president and vice president. This should be a period of excitement, of interest in what our newest leader of the country will have to offer our country. However, this period has became a period of violent rioting and nationwide arguments over whether or not President Trump is "your president."

Reality is, President Trump and Vice President Pence were sworn in at inauguration on January 20th, as the presidents before were. He is now America's president. If you are a member of this nation, your president is President Trump.

This does not mean you have to agree with everything that President Trump says or does. You will never completely agree with everything a leader does. However, it does mean you cannot root for President Trump to fail. As many people have said, wishing for President Trump to fail is wishing for our nation to fail, and that is heartbreaking to think some Americans are wishing for us to fail.

Our nation is divided mostly by two major factors: race and gender; however, when it comes in the scheme of things, these are minor issues. Preserving our nation's safety and security, and running a country efficiently- those are the main issues. We have allowed the media to chisel the crack of diversity between the American people, and morph it from a single crack to the Grand Canyon.

So, where do we go from here?

The biggest issue the American people themselves need to mend is our divide as a nation. There are many petty details that may separate us as individuals, however we all bear one similarity: we are Americans. The title Americans binds us all; it bears no added racial identity. We are not separate racial bodies, such as African-Americans or Indian-Americans; we are not even separate political bodies, such as Liberal Americans or Conservative Americans. We are all Americans longing for our nation to be governed in the best possible way.

So, while anti-Trump protesters are wishing for Trump to fail and America to go downhill, they forget one large detail: they will have to abide in the nation which they are hoping for failure. No one longs to live in a failing nation, of that I am sure.

We all must unite as a nation with the realization that we will not always agree, but we all are all aiming at a common goal: a successful country. Therefore we must be open to our new president's ideas; you can't judge him after a few days of leadership. We also must join in prayer for our leaders, that they may be lead by God before they lead us.

God Bless America.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
