Dear Mom,
I just want to say some things to you that I don’t think I have ever said before. I don’t think you fully know how thankful I am for you. I am thankful that we have become so close in the past couple years. It honestly makes everyone jealous of the relationship we have. And with me being your child you know I feed off of that kind of stuff. But I want you to know the things that I am genuinely thankful for.
I am thankful for all the memories. We have shared a lot of memories together. So many it is hard to count or even try to remember. Whether it’s going to the zoo together or just a lazy day watching Bring It On. We are almost the same person and have become closer than any mother and son before. We are a force to be reckoned with and a duo that will never be broken up.
I am thankful for the fact that you will always be in my corner. Never have I been more excited than to hear your loud whistle when I come out for a curtain call. Or the times when I only see you grinning from ear to ear in the audience while I am on stage. It means the world knowing that I have you here supporting me.
I am thankful for the fact that I honestly attribute almost all of my personality to you. I mean, yes genetics probably play some sort of role in this, but this isn’t the time for that. I know that I got my fiery spirit from you. Mom, you have taught me to stand up for not just myself but also anything that I thoroughly believe in. You have taught me to become a fighter but also a lover. I have grown up seeing you express compassion for anyone that comes your way, never letting anyone down and making sure that they are taken care of. Now yes, you have questioned why you have been given some of these things, but I have only seen you navigate them with ease.
I am thankful for the fact that you have taken on the mess that is your child. When things went south a while back, I am thankful that you have never given up on me. I know I can be a lot to handle at times. Let's be serious, I haven’t been the easiest kid to take care of but I know you will never give up. You will always be there to show me through and make sure that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
But most of all, I am thankful for being your son. 19 years ago, you signed on to an adventure that I don’t think you, or myself, really knew what was going to happen. I mean, it’s like that with every kid. Who really knows what they are getting themselves into? But in all seriousness, you have been the best person to have as a teacher. I have looked up to you my whole life and no doubt will I ever not look to you for advice and guidance. You shaped me to be the person that I am today. And for that, I will always be thankful.
Love,
Your son
