A Letter to the Girl Who Joined My Chapter
Christina Conti

As a junior, I look back onto my bid day two years ago. Two years ago I joined to best chapter and became a part of Zeta Tau Alpha. I remember opening my bid and crying a little bit over the excitement of what the next four years had in store for me. I knew being a part of something that was bigger than me was going to help me grow. I knew it was going to make me into someone I had always believed I could become. I have made so many memories and have found my best friends. I have found the girls I want next to me on my wedding day and the girls that are there for me when something in my life goes wrong. To the girls who just joined my chapter, welcome the the greatest four years of your life.

To the girl who just joined my chapter, I hope you find what I have found. I have found the perfect family, the perfect friends, and the perfect support system. I found a big who is there for me to always encourage me to be the best person I can be. I hope you find the mentor I have found in my big sister as well as a best friend. I hope you find a family that grows and loves you through all your weirdness. I hope you find the girls you can go on road trips with and the girls you can call at 2:00 AM because some boy broke your heart. I hope you find the girls who will text you when they know you've been going through a hard time and you find the girls who will lift you up when school seems to be getting the best of you.

To the girl who joined my chapter, take every opportunity to be involved that you can. Take the positions that you doubt you would be good at or you know nothing about. Take the leap of faith and believe in yourself. You will be able to accomplish more with these women by your side than you were ever able to accomplish alone. You will learn that your chapter can be some of the biggest supporters in your life. At times they will believe in your abilities more than you will.

To the girl who joined my chapter, this is now your chapter too. Make friends, get involved, and love every minute of being in this chapter. Enjoy the people, the memories, the pictures, the events, the opportunities, and most of all never forget what happens to you these next four years. Never forget the late night study sessions with the girls who will become your best friends. Never forget these years and the years to come even after you graduate. Your chapter and friends wills stay with you long after you graduate. Welcome to your chapter for the next four years. They will be some of the best of your life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
