It's funny how one semester can feel like an eternity, and at the same time, only a few seconds flashing by. What is funnier though is how so much can change.
You began your journey freshman year, took a few general education classes and chose a path you thought you were best suited for. In the beginning the first few classes were great – easy in fact. You took notes, raised your hand in class because you knew the answers. Your agenda lay organized, maybe even color coded to organize homework assignments, club meetings and a gym schedule if you were feeling optimistic. Life was good.
The semester continued. Maybe a few passed. Your teacher spots you in class hiding behind a notebook and calls on you to answer the question. Reluctantly, you answer while a tone of uncertainty or disinterest creeps up beneath your breath. The classes seem longer and you catch yourself checking the time more often. As a distraction, you pull out a crumbled notebook that looks as though it is tearing at the seams. “Agenda” it reads. Life is okay.
Many of us - more than we would like to admit - struggle when we are faced with the harsh reality that our majors are not what we hoped. For reasons of disinterest, complications or others, some are left with a tough decision, "Do I continue or change my major completely?"
To those who chose the harder path, this is for you:
You are brave. Not foolish, lost, a failure or any other name they throw at you. Sometimes Constantly life throws us curve balls, but if one thing is for certain it is that it happened for a reason. You will embark on a dangerous, confusing journey, and whoever said it was easy lied to you. It will be challenging and take a toll on your relationships and self-worth - But it will be worth it. So much so, that you will look back after the hardships and smile. You chose what was right for you. You didn't fail. You succeed more than most.
