Dear Summer,
We're all so glad to see you as we are as pasty white as we could be, so tired from finals week, and absolutely done with classes. We have been living in dorm rooms that look like prison cells for 10 months with the occasional break for Christmas and Thanksgiving. During this time we are buried in books, computers, homework and anything else you can think of that a professor can throw our way.
When school first begins, everything is okay and it still kind of like the dead end of summer, everyone is getting use to the new freshman kids walking around campus while seniors are ready to just get this stuff over with. People are still walking around with sun kissed skin, bleached hair and flip flops. As the colder months roll around, we all realize what time is coming, MIDTERMS. This is the point in the semester where everyone is beginning to freak out because it could be a determining factor if you pass or fail. The stress of this absolutely kills us, we are ready to fall over.
Thanksgiving and Christmas Break cannot come quick enough for us, simply because we all need a break. As everyone is traveling home, we only imagine where everyone is going, New York? California? Are they going to get to see snow? Are they going to watch football? Those couple of days remind us of the great things that are yet to come as May slowly but surely approaches.
Spring semester finally arrives as everyone is readjusting to the reality that this is the long haul, this is it. Seniors are finishing up final courses for their major, some are still switching their major. New classes are being taken, some are being dropped due to the fact that most twenty year old college kids cannot readjust after that major New Years Eve Party.
Finally, it's dead week, no homework, no quizzes, nothing and you are finally able to study and get ready for your exams. After everything is said and done, you come along to save the day. Oh, summer, if you only knew how much everyone loved you. You are stress free, book free, homework free. It is now the time for the beach trips, getting tan, and hanging out with friends without being in the library until 12 a.m. We can finally sleep without the anxiety or worry about being up for that hellish 8 a.m. history class. Summer, you are what saves our lives. You give us the break we need to be able to stay sane in the cruel world that we call "college."
Thank you for being the friend that we can always depend on to save us from anxiety, talk us through all of the bad things we had been through in the months before, letting us know everything will be okay, even if it's just for a little while.
Sincerely,
A Stressed College Kid
