There just aren't enough hours in the day

With all the activities that need your attention right now, it is needless to say that this is a stressful time of the school year. Whether you are struggling to turn in all the assignments and study for tests before Spring Break or you just got back from Spring Break and you're slowly working your way to the end of the semester, there's nothing fun about these last few weeks of classes. Amidst all the late nights in the library and the early mornings shuffling through note cards, it is so easy to start feeling helpless. I mean, professors are expecting us to pass and excel in classes, mom and dad want us to talk on the phone every night, the clubs and organizations we are a part of need extra help, our coaches want us to be practicing harder, and we are trying to balance all of these things with a good diet and enough sleep so we can somehow keep a death grasp on our sanity. That in itself is enough to classify you as insane.

Here's the thing, though. We have to stop worrying so much. Letting ourselves get overwhelmed with all we have to do doesn't do us any good in the long run. We have to trust that the preparations we have made up to this point will propel us through to Spring Break or to the end of the year. There comes a point in life where your mental health is more important than your social life or your clubs or even your grades. There, I said it. Something is more important than your grades. And my gosh that is just going to have to be okay. Because if we are expected to make good grades and be social and make time for everyone else then we have to make time for ourselves first.

It is so easy to get caught up in the little stresses of life. Don't let your to-do list define your life. Enjoy being a college student because four years will be up and you will have to enter the adult world where you will find a whole new list of stressors to worry about. This is the time in our lives that we can make mistakes, laugh off an assignment or two, stay up way too late and sleep in even later. We should be ok with everything not being perfect because it isn't going to be now and it won't ever be. And that is completely okay.

So hang in there bud. Do what you can to get done what you can. Spring Break will come and after that, the summer will show up too. Life is one big balancing act but let us not forget that we are the ones standing on the tightrope so we have to be in the best mental shape possible to keep everything in check. This time in our lives will come and go so fast and it is our responsibility to stop being so responsible and enjoy the times we have while they are right in front of us. So put away your homework tonight and go enjoy being you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
