Letter to the Roommate that Changed My Life

Dear Roomie,

When we met about a year ago from now, I had a little bit of an assumption that we would be roommates and nothing more. I knew that we would get along, but I never knew how well we would blend together. A year ago, you didn't know it but I still questioned whether or not I would come to this school. You helped change that though.

Move-in day came quickly after graduation, and I felt my stomach turn in knots. You already moved in due to rushing for a sorority, which you got the one you hoped for (Go Phi Mu)! I went into a panic mode. I knew you would start making new friends and that you would possibly forget about me, but that didn't happen.

Our first few weeks went by and we had already become the best of friends. Each morning you came into my room to wake me up screaming and singing "Gooo Greek, lemme hear ya say, Goo Greek!" After a few weeks of you saying that I finally agreed to go meet with my dream sorority, and I received my bid that day. (Go Chi Omega!) Had you not annoyed me to all ends of the earth I would have never made the decision to join the best sisterhood of my life.

More time went by and our campus got news that we should evacuate due to a hurricane. After a phone call with my mom, I was told I had to stay in Statesboro, and you decided out of the kindness of your heart to stay with me. I believe that hurricane weekend brought us the closest we've ever been. After 24 hours of no power and literally having nothing to do but stare at one another, we were lucky that one of us didn't severely injure the other.

We've almost made it an entire semester together and just signed to live together again next year, and I have never felt more sure of it. You changed my life forever, and I know that you will forever be one of my closest friends who I trust with my entire life.

Thank you for helping me grow into who I am and teaching me what it's like to live with someone from a different family.

I love you forever and always my roomie and bestie.

Love,

Your Favorite (lol) Roomie

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
