To My Beloved Nephew As He Turns Two

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

Dear Nephew,

Being your aunt is the greatest blessing God has given me. I have watched you learn to talk, learn to walk, learn to laugh, and learn to love. You have taught me what unconditional love looks like, and how to laugh until I am brought to joyful tears. Your smile inspires me to not only be the best aunt I can be, but the best person I can be. Thank you, buddy.

About two and half years ago, I got a phone call that changed my life forever. My sister, your mommy, called me from Chicago. She was on a business trip and called to tell me that she was having you in December of 2015. I cried the second she told me, and I wanted to tell everyone I knew. She asked me to keep it a secret for a while, so I obeyed her request. A few months later I was able to tell the world about you.

As you started to grow up, I spent all of my breaks from school with you. I taught you a few things and you taught me a few things, but overall we learned to laugh about the silliest things. I learned how to change diapers without throwing up, I guess that's what happens when you love someone unconditionally. The times I spent with you are my very favorite memories.

You are about to turn two, and my heart is exploding. You have grown up and grown into a handsome, intelligent, and lovable little boy. I truly believe that my job as your aunt will always be my favorite job. You have helped me realize that family should always come first, and you have been the glue that brought my already close family even closer.

As you get older, I hope you know that I am your cheerleader through every stage that life brings to you. I want you to know that I am proud of every accomplishment you have made and will make in the future. The best part about being your aunt is that the smallest accomplishments you make mean the world to me. Thank you for giving me the chance to cheer you on.

Buddy, you are the light of my life and the reason for my smile. I love you with all of my heart and I pray for you every day. Thank you for changing my life in the best way possible and for giving me the blessing of being your aunt.

Love,

Aunt LaLa

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
