To my younger sister,
As you already know, college is literally right around the corner for you. That basically means you have a whole new chapter in your life to begin and fulfill. You are going to move out of the house, away from mom and dad and be living on your own … in another state. Have the nerves kicked in yet?! Lucky enough for you, you will have your older sister right there by your side for half of the time you will be in college.
As you have heard everyone say, especially everyone in the family, that college is the best time of your life, it truly is. You will get days where you are happy and days where you do nothing but cry and complain to mom and dad that you want to come home (me all of freshman year). But do not worry little one, you have me to come to for help, advice, or even company!
You have yet to realize how lucky you are. Because you are the middle child, there has already been one kid, me, who has been through what you are about to go through. Yes, I had to deal with my experiences the hard way, but I am so happy with the way everything has turned out thus far. You should be so thankful for having a sibling go through the college process prior to you because:
You got the dorm you wanted immediately because you knew what dorm I was in and my opinion about all the other dorms.
However, do not be like me and spend every second of the day trapped in the room watching Netflix. Go out there and meet your hall mates! Who knows, you could get along with them and they could become your future roommates!
You have a good idea of what Greek life is like here; therefore you aren't coming in blind like I did.
By the time recruitment comes around, you will know not to freak out when girls are obnoxiously screaming and singing to you as soon as the doors of the house open. You will also know how important Greek life is on certain campuses and how the whole system works.
You are going to have an older sister who lives on campus, aka down the street from your dorm.
And you thought you were getting rid of me when I left for college! Ha! Here we are, together again!
Your older sister is going to have a car therefore you are not going to be trapped on campus and have to eat on university every weekend.
If you are having those midnight cravings or get sick of the food on campus, you are able to just send a text to me and figure out places to go off campus! Lucky enough for you, you won't get sick of the restaurants on university as fast as I did.
You will join a sorority and make tons of new friends! Not to mention, you can eat and hang out at the house every day of the week.
Bagel talk will not be in your daily routine as it was for me. Getting all kinds of different types of food served to you on a daily basis during the weekdays is the most convenient thing in college ever. You get to see your sisters daily and eat with them too! Perfect way of getting to know one another! However, make sure your schedule works with the times that food is served at the house! Just a tip!
You can come to your sister's apartment to do laundry and not wait a crazy amount of hours to use a washing machine in the dorm AND you won't have to waste money on both washing machines and dryers.
The amount of times I wasted $1.50 on both the washing machines and dryers within the dorm was ridiculous. Not only that, but people are not nice when it comes to washing their clothes and WILL take your stuff out and throw it on top of another dryer if you are not there to get your clean clothes. That is why I spent most of my time downstairs watching my clothes spin in the machines
If you want to get out of the dorm and have space away from your roommate who you share a 2x4 room with, you can just come to your sister's apartment.
Space is something everyone needs at some point. Living with a person in a room where you can literally plank across the two beds is when you know that space will be needed within the year of living together. And since I know you are more of a homebody, like me and would rather be comfy than go somewhere to study, my door will always be unlocked for you!
Basically, you get all the advantages that I considered disadvantages for me my freshman year. And let me tell you, be thankful.

Like I said before, college IS THE BEST time of your life so enjoy every moment of it! There is no going back from here, only forward and I am SO excited to have you with me at school next year. Get ready to throw your graduation cap up in the air, because you are graduating high school and beginning the best years to come!!!
