Dear Little Sisters,
As you grow up in a world that is beginning to lack youthful innocence, that holds unkind people, and involves taking on reality at a much younger age, I don't want you to be afraid of living. I want you to take on the world, and do everything you want. I want people to love you for the beautiful people I see you as. I want you to take every risk within reason, so you can find your true niche and the people you want to be surrounded by.
I hope our relationship grows as we age and that, one day, we can get along for more than two minutes and bond over drinks and laugh at our stupid little arguments as kids. I hope you find people who make you happy and thankful to be alive each and every day, and that push you to be a better person with each word spoken and each passing moment spent with them. I want you to be inspired so that no dream you think about at night is too far from your reach. I want you to travel and see the beauty in this immense world we live in. I want you to succeed and do all the things I never had the courage to try or do. I want you to appreciate the love and support that Mom and Dad give us, and I hope you can see how proud they are of you.
I want you to know I am always here for you, no matter if you steal clothes out of my closet while I am away at school or get mad at me for beating you on Just Dance, although that rarely happens. You are strong enough to overcome every word that hurts you, whether it is from a bully at school or a friend who is too selfish to see your worth. You are unique in every aspect of your being, and I love how those qualities make you stand out.
I hope you will learn to value your education and hold yourself to a higher standard because I know you are wise beyond your years. I want you to love, because without it you will not feel true emotion. I want you to see the true beauty in every day from the sunrise at dawn, to each raindrop that falls on your windowsill, to every star that shines down upon you at night.
I want you to appreciate everything you have been given in life, and I want you to keep in mind those less fortunate who need your help to live comfortably. I want your hearts to grow in compassion, and I want you to know how to make a difference in the world. You are one of many who can make an impact on someone’s life. I want you to see the good in every bad situation, be grateful for every ounce of luck you experience, and learn from the experiences you don’t want to go through again.
I want you to know how hard it is to be away from you when I am at school, and how much I miss you every day. I want you to know how extremely proud I am to say I am your sister, and how great it is to see both of your personalities become more and more distinct with each day.
I want you to be the best you can be. I want you to be you. I am thankful for who you are becoming, who you have been, and for making me the person I am today. You are beautiful, and I cannot wait to see what you make of your future.
Love,
Your Big Sister
