Dear Munchkin (side note: You will forever be my munchkin, regardless of how old you are or how much taller than me you get),
I want to start off by saying I'm proud of you. I always have been, and I always will be, regardless of how many mistakes you may make. I have watched you grow from a tiny, premature infant in the NICU to the beautiful, strong 11-year-old you've become. I've been there every step of the way in your development, and it has been a privilege.
We had our moments, and I'd be lying if I said there weren't times you got on my last nerve. But, I'm so blessed to have you. When I want to give up, it is you I think of, and I keep going. Your hugs can turn my day around, and your smile lights up a room. I see the way you look up, and I want to make you proud. Simply put, you make me want to be a better person, and I am so grateful for that.
As you know, I love giving advice. I have 10 more years of experience on this planet, and you can be sure I'll tell you all about it. However, you might not always agree with my advice. As our brother can attest, I give tough love. I will tell you when you're wrong, call you out on things, and tell you straight up what I think. You're my little sister, and it is my job to protect (and embarrass) you. You may not like what I'm going to say, and since you're related to me, you probably won't listen. But, I will let you make your own mistakes, and I will always be there to help you recover from them.
I am your sister, but I am also your friend. I hope you know that no matter how busy I am, how far away I live, or how tired I may be, I am always here for you. I've been in your shoes before. I've made mistakes, and I've learned from them. Let me help you. I promise not to judge.
I love you munchkin. I always have, and I always will.
Love,
Your big (slightly embarrassing) sister
