Dear Little,

Life is pretty fun for me right now! You have no idea who I am, but I have been obsessing over you for a few weeks now. Being sneaky is so fun. Giving you false clues, getting insanely nervous around you and showering you in gifts is strangely the most fun I have had while being an active in our sorority. It’s a weird, exciting adrenaline rush. I feel like I’m trying to make a boy that I have a crush on like me back.

Now that I don’t have to hide behind a secret Instagram or Facebook account, Twitter page, or anonymous Snapchat account, I can tell you this from the bottom of my heart: I love you so much!

Have we met yet? Possibly. Are we exactly alike? You know, I can’t say for sure, but I do know that the sorority goddesses matched us together for some reason.

You might read Total Sorority Move articles and see things on Pinterest and get a false idea of what big and little really means. It’s not just someone to buy you presents, it’s not just matching shirts and cute pictures, and it’s DEFINITELY not someone to break the rules with. By being my little, you’re in a bit of an unspoken contract with me. We now look out for each other. I will learn just as much from you as you will from me, if not more. You’re my new best friend!

I’m not going to lie, however, I might not be what you expect.

You have to realize that, as a college student, I’m just as broke as you are, so I might not buy you a ton of expensive things to fill your room up. As much as I wish I could, I might not buy you a monogrammed North Face jacket or 50 cute canvases from Etsy, but I can guarantee one thing - I will always try. I’ll always try my hardest to be the best sister to you that I can be.

Whenever you need a laugh, I’ll be there. (I’m pretty hilarious.)

Whenever you need to cry, I’ll be there, armed with a box of Kleenex. (I’m a great listener.)

Whenever you just want to have fun, I’m your girl! (I’m pretty much the most fun ever.)

All I can guarantee is that I will work hard to be the best friend to you that I can possibly be. I’ve been waiting to be a big sister ever since I got my big a year ago. The bond that we will share forever can not be changed. I can’t wait for you to find out who I am. Until then, I’ll continue counting down the days until we can be the cutest big and little duo to ever exist!

Love always,

Your big

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
