Dear Future Big

All the things I want my Big to know.

Dear Future Big,

I am SO excited to know who you are! I have been looking forward to Big/Little Reveal since Bid Day. I cannot wait for the day to come where I come running down the stairs to find you in a matching shirt. I’m ready to go on amazing adventures and make lots of great memories with you.

That being said, there’s a couple things you should know.

I’m going to ask for your help while I am studying every bit of information about our founders and what our sisterhood stands for. I hope you’re there with flashcards to test me and tell me that I’ll pass with flying colors.

I hope you hold me to the highest standard that our sisterhood represents. You will be my example and my teacher as I figure out everything about our chapter. You will be the sister I look up to.

I will talk about my home and family a lot, but I want you to be my home away from home, and the sister that’s also my best friend. I want you to have my back through everything. This might mean laughing together it might mean crying together. Either way, I want you to be there for me.

I want to share the best and worst things about my week with you. I want you to be there when dates go wrong and after roommate disagreements. I want you to be there when I ace the exam I’ve studied hours for, and when dates go right. I might ask you to go to the library with me, or even to take me grocery shopping.

I want you to be proud of me and the person I am becoming. I want you to be proud to call me your little.

These are things I want, but here is what I will give.

I promise to be the best little you could ever ask for. I promise to be your friend when you need me. When you get homesick, I will be there as your stand-in family. I will cover the Chugz tab, bake cookies for you, and do whatever I can to be there for you.

I promise to help you study on your midterms and finals, or even just keep you company at the library when you need it. I will help you even when you don’t ask for it simply because I know you need it.

I promise to come to the house just to talk. I want to hear everything about your day. I promise to work my hardest to make this the best Big/Little relationship out there. I will go on crazy adventures with you, late night rides, and step out of my comfort zone to make lasting memories with you.

I promise to thank you for everything you will do for me. I will never take having a great Big for granted. I promise to remember not only the big things of reveal week, but all the little things after that. I promise to always hug you when I see you, and call you when I miss you.

I promise to make you proud to call me your little.

Love,

Future Little

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
