Dear J.K. Rowling,
I can still remember the first time I was introduced to one of your Harry Potter books. I was given "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/Philosopher's Stone" for my 5th birthday by a family friend (I had a very high reading level as a child).
I didn't actually start reading the books until I was about 9. I was instantly hooked. The stories were intriguing, the characters were relatable, and I could not put a single book down.
Your stories have changed my life. They have connected to me to something so much bigger than myself. I have never enjoyed a series more or felt more captivated by a fantasy story in my life.
I admire you so much. You took a mere idea and turned it into something the world could never have even fathomed. You have inspired more than just me- you have inspired a generation. You have given me more than just a passion for reading books- you have given me the inspiration to create this world for myself.
I have always loved writing. For the longest time, I have loved writing stories. Your stories have helped me along that journey. I may never be able to accomplish what you have accomplished, but I hope one day to try.
I can also still remember the first Harry Potter film adaptation I saw in theaters. I was 10 years old and my dad took me and a friend to see "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" in theaters. This became one of my all time favorite of the films. Being able to do justice to your incredible stories and bring them to life in such an incredible way was something I found fascinating. You allowed these characters to be given visual representation and have their story told in a fantastic visual display of creativity and vision. I will always prefer the books to the films, but I can always find myself going back to them every once in a while and re-visualizing the magic brought to life from page to screen.
Thank you for inspiring a generation of kids all over the world to believe the impossible. Thank you for allowing us to think for a moment that magic can exist. Thank you for letting us understand that even when times are hard if we believe we can overcome, we shall overcome.
Thank you for giving us inspirational characters, both good and bad. I have always felt that I relate to Hermione the most, but I also see a bit of myself in Ginny and Minerva. Thank you for giving us both a hero, an antagonist, and an anti-hero. I could not have asked for a more diverse group of characters in a single series. You put so much time and effort into creating this whole other world for us, and I thank you for that.
Thank you for allowing us to relive the magic every single day. My life would not be the same without you.
Sincerely,
A loving fan
