I don't know if any of you are like me, but I was very close to the people that I went to high school with. I had really good friends, but going off to college begged the question of whether or not those friendships would still hold strong. So this is for the ones who saw me through some of the hardest and most awkward times in my life.
Dear High School Best Friends,
Here we are after our first semester of college. We are so used to living hundreds of miles away from each other and have made a lot of new and wonderful friends. But as we all come back into town for break, we anticipate seeing each other after so long. Will we feel weird or out of place?
No.
I have been able to see some of you this past week and I have come out of each time spent together feeling incredibly blessed. It is honestly like we never said goodbye. We picked up right where we left off; telling crazy college stories and reminiscing on good times from our high school days. For some of you, you are journeying through the crazy time that is senior year. Thanks for loving all of us when we come back and want to hang out even though you are crazy busy. Y'all always make time and it means so much.
Why is it that even though we don't see each other every day anymore, that those strong friendships still hold true? It is because of how much love and support we all gave each other when we needed it the most? We were there for each other through breakups, the loss of loved ones, making life-changing decisions, and just the ups and downs that high school can give. We have a bond that can't easily be broken with distance and I am so grateful for that. I am so glad that even though we are miles away from each other during the school year, I know that y'all are only a phone call away. You have put up with countless ranting sessions or just random conversations when I needed someone to talk to.
I was so ready to graduate last spring. I was annoyed with high school and everything that goes along with it. But as soon as I stepped away from y'all to start college, I immediately missed the friendships that I had grown over the span of 13 years. I hope that we continue to hold onto each other through the years because I wouldn't be who I am today without y'all. I am excited to watch y'all pursue your dreams. Thanks for the memories and I am looking forward to more.
You don't know what you have until it's 300 miles away from you.
