An open letter to my dear mom,

I don't even know where exactly to begin, but I wanted to thank you mom, for everything you've done for me and our family. First of all, you have always put your kids first before anything. Making your family has been your priority. You have dedicated yourself to your family and I appreciate you so much for that and more.

All my life, you have encouraged me to go for my goals. You have given me strength in times of need.

The earliest memories I have with you are remembering the times you came to visit me at school. I felt joy when you came to see me play a pilgrim for thanksgiving in Kindergarten. I also remember even faking stomach aches, just to go home and see you. I guess I didn't want to be away from you for too long.

Querida madre, you have seen me through my highs and lows, but you have never denied your love for me. When I needed protection and advice you are always there for me. You're a mother that accepts me and others the way they are and that is powerful. You love teaches me to continue to learn how to be a better person every day.

Mom, you have been a positive role model in my life. You were the first person to show me your passion for art, music and that has influenced my love for the arts today. You bought me my first diaries, and let me daydream and be a child. Your encouragement inspires me to love reading and develop my imagination.

Most importantly you are a healer, a listener, and the most compassionate person I know. I am proud to be your daughter. Now that I am a woman and have my own family I understand even more how much you sacrificed to make our lives better. Thank you for helping me with my own family and answering all my questions when I call you let me know that the time doesn't' matter.

It is ingrained in me is that being a mother is a blessing. You are a blessing in my life and my child's life. Mom, because of you and your encouragement you inspired me to be an independent woman and pursue my goals.

When I needed it, you were there to give me encouragement whether it was in school and other endeavors. It has meant a lot when you are able to listen to me and you give me a new perspective. You are the reason that I am who I am today. I have accomplished so much with your love and support. Thank you, mom.

To my mother with so much love and respect from your daughter.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
