Grandparents,

Although I don’t see you very often, I love you a lot. I trust that you have done the best that you can to raise your three daughters, I appreciate all that you have done for me, and I thoroughly enjoy when I get to see you.

The thing is, the candidate that you have chosen to endorse really upsets me.

Political parties aside, Donald Trump advocates for ethics and outlandish acts of racism and sexism that should not only upset me, but the entire population. To publicly support a political figure who has openly insulted females: girls younger than I am, victims of sexual and domestic abuse, and those with disabilities, promotes the idea that you associate yourself with these standards of living, and ways to treat people. In reality, the two votes you will cast on November 8th have little significance to the actual outcome of the election. That aside, the act of endorsing such a person; whose campaign has diligently worked to diminish the value and worth of actual human-beings, and encourage ideals of hate and horrific domination, is unexpected, and the most disappointing to me.

I understand we have grown up in different times, our generations differ in what they focus their energy on. Your generation is concerned with matters of Social Security, retirement, bringing America back to “traditionalism,” pride towards the country, nostalgia towards youth, preserving a population with standards and beliefs similar to your own, alienating yourself from the seemingly irresponsible behavior of millennials, and family values. My generation, on the other hand, is attempting to break the barriers between men and women, treat people of different ethnicities as equals, make sure that women of sexual abuse are able to get rid of a future child that is not wanted or able to be cared for, help students everywhere afford to go to college, elect a president who promises affordable health care to those who are struggling to feed their families, increase minimum wage, fix discrimination in the work place, provide heavier gun control so that children can feel safer in their elementary school classrooms and that women will not be attacked by psychotic teenagers on a rampage, and protect the environment and the ever-present issue of climate change.

We are different, I realize.

I have tried to understand a sense of the mentality that goes into voting for such a candidate, but the reality of this election is, the mentality of someone voting for Donald Trump has been entirely lost. Your claims against Hillary hold no power in justifying the immense acts of hate and terror that her running-mate is spewing. How can you accept the words that Trump has said to females, around the same age as your grand-daughter? How can you support a candidate that’s outlandish and bold statements diminish the efforts of the Civil Rights Movement, the Women’s Rights Movement, or Roe v. Wade; in turn changing the movement of history completely backwards?

Too often, millennials are judged for their desires to diversify and branch away from “old values”, when in reality, this has little to do with this election. Not only does this election separate the morals and overall values one has for our country and future of our Government, it separates the morals and values that are had for society, human-beings as a whole, and the safety of our world.

I would like to say that I have respect for your opinions, because they are yours, and we often shy away from the topic of politics, but as you support a candidate that promotes ideals of hatred in its greatest form, I must share how greatly this disappoints me.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
