Dear Grandpa,
I know you won't be able to read this because you don't use the Internet, but the sentiment is still present. It's not everyday you have someone in your life you bond with. There's no one else I would want to watch baseball games with after work. Sometimes you fall asleep during the games, but you pick right back up where you left off when you wake up. These high-definition televisions are great because now you can see every time Stephen Curry takes his mouth guard out during a game, and proceed to laugh about it. I know there are some grandchildren that might find it a drag to bring their grandparents around. I enjoy getting to drive you to the beach. You have started walking slower than you did a few years ago.
That's fine, actually. I enjoy walking leisurely and taking in the sights. I enjoy taking you to the pharmacy to pick up your prescriptions. I enjoy picking up more milk and bananas from the grocery store for you. I am grateful to be able to help you. I am grateful to have you in my life. I am grateful for the time we have together. I wish every day spent together were guaranteed. Since it's not, I know it is important for me to make every day with you well-spent. I want to thank you for always encouraging me to travel, even when it meant going away to a different country for several months. Thank you for always instilling in me a sense of strength and self-determination. It has probably only worsened my stubborn nature, but that's not a bad thing either.
Grandma isn't around anymore, and I am sure that's why I became so mindful of our time together. Thank you for slipping me twenty dollar bills for the week for my lunches at work. Thank you for always making sure I have the necessities and taking me shopping for pants when mine always seem to rip every year. I don't think there is a grandfather around better than you are, and I'm glad you are my grandpa.
Love,
Your Granddaughter
