A Letter To My Future Grand Little

Dear Grand,

Well first off, welcome to the best family that your little heart could have ever led you to. I promise you that these next four years are going to be some of the best years of your life. You are going to experience more crazy, emotional and fun-filled moments than you could ever imagine. Your big is going to be here for a few more years, but sadly I don’t have as long as she does. She has been dying to meet you since the second she became mine at big/little reveal just last year. We have waited so long to finally have an addition to this family that we refer to as our home away from home. You have no idea what you are in for little one. I have watched your big grow into an amazing woman over this past year, and I know she is going to be such an amazing role model towards you.

Be ready to attend more date parties, themed socials and sisterhoods than you could ever dream of. Don’t judge me for sobbing my eyes out though, for these will be nearly the last of my events. You will also be gifted with more crafts than your heart could desire. Being in this sorority has helped me find my place, here at college, and I know that it will have the same effect on you. You will laugh and cry multiple times with your sisters, and you’ll cherish each moment as if it were your last. I promise you that I will never leave or abandon you, and neither will your big. We are all a family now. We are here to build each other up and to be the best women we can possibly be. I do hope you grow close with your big. I also hope that you two build a bond stronger than any friendship you’ve ever had. I’m not saying she has to be your best friend, but I am saying that she should be someone that you can look to for guidance. She is here to both encourage you and help you succeed. She has made her fair share of mistakes, I’m sure, and only wants what is best for you. She will never neglect you but instead, will always appreciate and defend you. She is there to be your rock, so let her be just that.

College is going to bring you some tough times, and it is going test your strength in so many ways. There are going to be days where you are so homesick that you won’t know where to turn or who to go to for comfort. That’s what your big and I are here for. We’ll be right there with hugs and more ice cream than you could possibly consume. I promise that I will do everything that I can to make your college experience the best it can be. I will be here to laugh with, to be crazy with, and to even do homework with. Your big and I promise to set the best example for you so that you become even more of an amazing individual than you already are. College is going to go by in the blink of an eye, and soon you’ll be sitting in my position sobbing at the thought of having your own future legacy to pass down. I would give anything to be back in your shoes and restart my four years in this amazing sisterhood. I would happily relive all the good and bad times because it is what shaped me into the woman I am today. I hope you have the best experience possible, and I will make sure to do everything I can to help you achieve that. I may be a grandma now, but don’t count me out just yet. Once a family, always a family.

Much love,

Gram

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
