I do not remember much about my first day in my new home, but what I do remember is that I got a lot of attention that day! I was given tons of food from a brand new bowl that even had my name on it!
I loved my new family so much. They let me sleep with them in their bed every night. During the day, I would take my people on long walks around the neighborhood. I always made sure to stop at every single mailbox to check for good smells. After the walk was over, my human would be so tired that we would have to sit on the couch and relax. I would curl up in my human's lap and sleep there. Sometimes I dreamed about treats! I love treats.
After a long time, and lots of walks, my people brought home a tiny human! The tiny human liked to scream, which was annoying to my ears, but I loved the tiny human anyways. I started to sleep in the tiny human's room in case she needed me during the night.
The tiny human kept getting bigger and bigger and eventually stopped all the screaming. I loved that the tiny human could run around with me now. She would throw me lots of tennis balls in the backyard, which was so much fun.
As the tiny human was getting not-so-tiny, my people told me I was getting bigger too. "Too big" were my least favorite words. They said I was too big to sleep in their bed anymore and was too big to sleep on their lap on the couch.
My people were getting older too. I loved them anyways, even when they stopped wanting to play. Even the not-so-tiny human eventually stopped throwing tennis balls in the backyard. It got harder to take my people for walks because they never wanted to go. When we did go, they got very annoyed at me for stopping at every mailbox to check for the good smells. They would tug on my leash very hard so that I did not sniff for too long. When we would get home, I knew I could not sleep on my human's lap anymore, so I just slept on the floor next to them. I still loved my humans from down there.
One day, my human took me on a ride in the car. I was very scared I had to go to the vet, but I did not! Instead, we went to a place I had never smelled before. I was taken to a little room with a floor that was not soft like the ones at my home and had a bowl that did not have my name on it.
I still do not know why I am here. Lots of people come every day and look at me in my little room. I love all the nice visitors who call me "such a cute old dog." I am so excited for the day my humans come to visit and take me back home with them. I love my humans.
Adoption is a life-long commitment. They love you from their first day to their last, you should return the favor.
