Your first year of college is filled with fear and excitement and so many changes that it can be hard to keep your calm. The craziness you experience can either be comforted or amplified depending on who you are rooming with. Luckily, I got you. If it wasn’t for you, college would have been unnerving and I am forever thankful. After nine moths of sharing a living space, I can say with full confidence that I have found my best friend.
1. I thank you first for our talks at 1 a.m. that started off as light, breezy conversation but slowly turned into deep discussions as we got closer and learned more about one another. Those talks could range from us bawling about our past to laughing so uncontrollably our neighbors came over to tell us to be quiet. I cherish every single one.
2. I also thank you for dealing with me. I am a lot to handle on a good day and when there are fewer hours of sleep in my system and barely any food I am less than pleasant, you still don’t hate me. That alone shows me how amazing you truly are.
3. Thank you for having the same taste in music, tv and movies as me. It made our Netflix binges and dance parties so much better. It is so weird how in common we are and that’s probably why we got chosen as random roommates but it still shocks me every time I play a weird song and you start singing along.
4. Thank you for never judging me but always giving it to me straight. It takes a very special human to work that balance and after the classic freshman year mishaps I never once felt judged by you.
5. Thank you for always being down for pizza or pancakes at 10 p.m on a Tuesday night. College and pizza go almost as well together as you and I do and I’m glad I got a roommate who understands pizzas importance in a well-balanced diet. Our bank accounts may not have liked our late night treats but we sure did.
6. Thank you for reminding me I pay $34,000 a year for school when my online shopping cart is full, yet at the same time encouraging me to buy those cute shorts I really liked when you knew I had the money for it. You took on the role of mom, my conscious and friend all in less than a year and I am forever grateful
7. Thank you for taking me in as a member of your family so early on. Because of our friendship, I didn’t only gain a best friend but I gained a whole new family that I would do anything for.
I guess to sum it up I am just super thankful that out of everyone going to our school, they gave me you. You get me and make me laugh and know when I am in a bad mood even when I am trying desperately to hide it. Without you as my right hand all year I would have been lost and probably really crabby. I hope you know how thankful I am that you were placed in my life and in my room and I love you so much!
