A Well Deserved Thank You To My Freshman Year Roommate
Sarah Fernandez

Hey Love,

I know we joke about our first meeting all the time and how we vigorously stalked each other online, but truly, I’m glad it paid off. I was insanely nervous at first in case we didn’t get along as well in person as we did online and so on, but after the first sense of awkwardness, we got along perfectly. I remember after we met, you asked me to be your roommate and as I tell you often it was almost like a marriage proposal. I had never been so excited to text my parents any sort of news. To add to that, they were just as thrilled too, they loved your parents just as much as I loved you. After that, we both know the rest is history - in the best sort of way possible. I know living with me isn't always a pleasure and I have a lot of quirks; but thank you so much for everything, I don't even know where to begin.

1. Thank You For Putting Up With How Gross I Can Be

To keep this one short and sweet, thank you for understanding when I ‘just can't’ clean, take out the garbage, put on pants, or even can’t stop burping, thank you for putting up with me.

2. Thank you for always being proud of me

No matter what grade I get, you always know I put my heart and soul into whatever assignment it was. You have always been interested in my job applications at college, my writing and so on, and you're always one of the first to applaud me on a job well done.

3.Thank You For The Best ‘Pillowtalk’

I hope you enjoyed my Zayn reference, but aside from that, thank you. I enjoy those nights that we can stay up with the lights out and just talk. You are honestly my therapist and I’m sorry I don’t have enough to repay you. No matter what we talk about, I always feel better about just talking about whatever is weighing on our mind.

4. Thank You For Always Being Down For Sing-Alongs and Sliding Around in Socks

When I’ve just about blown my fuse, it’s good to know that as soon as I step into our room we’re instantly able to go into a sing along with an array of songs, as well as dance/slide around the room with our socks on. As for 'our song', whenever it comes on and you're not with me to sing along, it genuinely makes me sad.

5. Thank You For Letting Me Dye Your Hair

We both had that phase in the beginning of the year when we wanted some changes and I’m happy to say I got to help in that process. We had so much fun doing it and even more so seeing the results. So not only thank you for trusting me to dye your hair; but thanks for making those occasions into such positive memories.

6. Thank You For Helping Me When I'm Sick

Everyone has those horrible days, sick nights or so on. Thank you for being my mom away from home in a sense. From the days I can’t go to the dining hall to get food so you bring some back for me, to the days I won’t even leave bed; and you’ll bring me water. You have been someone I rely on since day one.

7. Thank You For Being A 24/7 friend

Growing up we’ve always had friends at school. When that was the case, we’d go home at the end of the day and not see them until the next day. With us, you have to deal with me practically 24/7, and for that I thank you. After some time we most likely miss a private room and all that, and it’s hard to adjust to not getting a break from someone. But to be honest, I’m glad it’s you. We get along so effortlessly and work well with each other. So, thank you for being my first 24/7 friend

I genuinely thank you from the bottom of my heart. You’ve seen me as the bright-eyed freshman who was so excited to start this journey, but you've also seen my looks of despair. You have always been there to help and support me, as well as make me laugh. I really can’t thank you enough. We both came into this never living with someone before and I think we made it pretty enjoyable. So thank you for not only being the best roommate; but for being my first college best friend as well.

I’m looking forward to all the memories we’ll continue to make.

Love always,

Your Freshman Year Roommate

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
