When I write, my subject is usually whatever is happening in my life or whatever pops into my mind at the time. For this article, I was searching for powerful inspiration. I wanted to write about something meaningful. Well, I decided on someone powerful; my mom. The following is a letter to my mom expressing my love and gratitude towards her.
I believe there are two types of moms: there’s the working mom who wakes up, showers, watches the news, and then hurries off to work with a coffee cup in one hand, a briefcase in the other, and her morning apple in her mouth. Then there’s the stay-at-home mom. She is the type who is always family oriented. For example, she wakes up at 5:00 A.M., gets her children ready for the day, and then completes an endless number of tasks that need to be done by the end of the day.
You, my mom, are a mix of the two. You are always up bright and early to make sure we are never late for school or work. Once you see us off, you spend the day working from home. It’s how you support us and make sure we have everything we need from clothes and food to computers and phones.
I know that our relationship isn’t always perfect. We have, and will continue to, fight over stupid things, call each other hurtful names, and makes each other angry. But that’s part of life. If we didn’t have some bad moments, then we wouldn’t know the good ones. Those times when you are my shoulder to cry on; when you are there to encourage my dreams; when you tell me hard truths.
In the future, you will walk me down the aisle, you will be my go-to babysitter, and you will help me master your famous recipes. I will be the hand you hold, the person you call to talk to, the one who will take care of you. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Mom, I love you.
