A Thank You Letter To The Brutally Honest People In My Life
Freedom

I consider a true friend to be someone who keeps it real and doesn’t always pull the “nice card” with me. Someone that I can go to with all of my life struggles, knowing they’ll be honest about it all. Yeah I know, sometimes the truth hurts; but hey, it’s better than making a fool of yourself.

So here’s to all of my friends that have been straightforward with me throughout the years.

Thanks…

For letting me know if I’m overreacting

Thanks for being the Dr. Phil to my flood of emotions. When I’m seriously upset, I need someone to tell me if I’m right or wrong, not just agree with everything I say to make me feel better.

For helping my style stay on ‘fleek’

Thanks for putting up with my numerous snapchats of myself in a dressing room. Letting me know what I should buy or asking me why I would ever consider trying that on in the first place.

For admitting to me if my post is social media worthy

Thanks for texting me immediately after a stupid post of mine on social media. Either telling me to delete an unflattering picture of myself, or to inform me of my illiterate typo in my latest tweet.

For providing me with the honest truth about my weight

Thanks for being straightforward with me if I’ve ever gained weight. Let’s be honest, my mom loves me too much to tell me the truth. The freshman 15 is seriously a thing. I don’t want to be blind sighted about gaining weight just so that everyone in my hometown can discuss it behind my back.

For alerting me if I’m acting like an outright idiot

Thanks for tapping me on the shoulder if I need to take it down a notch. Whether it is dancing on a table (make your own assumption here), unknowingly embarrassing myself in public, acting unprofessional to customers at work, or anything else that could fall under this category, thanks for giving me the heads up.

For keeping me in my place

Thanks for letting me know if I’m acting a little too confident with myself. No one likes an arrogant person. Sometimes overconfidence can get the best of someone, so thanks for the necessary wake-up call.

Overall, thanks for being a little harsh. You’re someone I know that I can for sure count on whenever life throws me a curve ball, knowing you’ll always have my back.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
