To my best friend,
We’ve known each other since elementary school. Our friendship solidified one scary day in that Driver’s Ed. car. I went barreling towards that gas pump, mistaking the gas pedal for the brake. I whispered “Tell no one at school.” We laughed it off, and there began a beautiful friendship.
Times of laughter, tears, movie nights, and late night Wal-Mart runs flash in my brain when I think of you. We were young, but things have changed. Graduation came and I could feel us slipping apart. Months went by and neither of us seemed to notice how far we had drifted from each other. I started college, and you moved away.
Late into December of my freshman year I was confronted with this feeling of loss and sadness. I missed my best friend. I reached out to you, and thankfully you replied. It was stupid of me to ever let you slip out of my life like that. You are my singing-along-to-the-radio buddy, peanut butter to my jelly, oddly distant cousin, and soul sister. I’m sorry for dropping the ball when it came to our friendship.
There is no denying that my life is drastically different from yours. You have just given birth to the most beautiful baby boy I have ever seen. I'm so lucky to be his Godmother and Aunty. I'm finishing up my second year of college, and we are over two hours away from each other. This is crazy different than before when it would would only take me two minutes to walk over to your house. Even though we live so far apart now, we are making it work. That's what friends do. They reach out for each other, and know they are loved even from afar.
I’m here to let you know that no matter how far away we may be, or how crazy life gets, I will be there when you call. You are my family. I’m grateful for all that you have done and will do for me. Though our lives are still crazy different and we can’t always hang out and be super spontaneous like we used to, I plan to be there with you every step of the way. I’m only one phone call, text, Skype call, or silly Snapchat away. Thank you for being my friend. I love you!
