I am a young Republican. I know the horror. Didn’t see that coming? How could you when half of the Republicans are afraid to state that they are one? I don’t usually voice my opinion, because in all honesty, I have been trained not to. I’m not one to cause conflict, which in itself is an awful thing to say, but I am sick of the bashing. I am not here to shove my beliefs down your throat and try to change your opinions, because they are just that, YOUR opinions. I think that is one of the best things about the United States, is that we are free to have our own thoughts and beliefs. I am especially proud of my generation, for standing up for what they believe in. If we all believed in the same thing, under one ruler we would have a dictatorship, not a democracy. Conflict IS a good thing, so why is everyone offended that there are Republicans? It is not like it is a new concept.
It is hard being a Republican in a college atmosphere. Most college kids, along with most professors, are democrats. That means I sit in class, along with a few others, scared to voice my opinion because it will differ from those around me. I can’t speak how I really feel in lecture because my professor might call me out in front of everyone. This isn’t how it should be. How about we all listen to each others sides instead of silencing them? We should all be free to voice how we feel, but it has become cool to bash Republicans. We’re seen as the bad ones...like how does that even make sense? I am here to get a higher education, not be brainwashed into thinking like everyone else. I am free to have my own thoughts and not be punished because they’re not the same as others. In college they teach you how to do critical thinking, but as long as it is critical thinking in the way they want you to.
Let’s get a couple things straightened out while we’re at it. Here are some myths about being a Republican. I'm sexist. I'm racist. I'm homophobic. I'm misogynist. NEWS FLASH! I'm not. This is what a Republican is seen as now. Just because Donald Trump was elected President, does not mean that every Republican thinks that way. I support free market, foreign policy, and small businesses. I can be a Republican and not be Trump. I don’t necessarily agree with everything he says, but I still agree with Republican thoughts.
But the bashing. The bashing is what really needs to stop. All of these Clinton supporters are tearing apart people who voted for Trump, calling them all these names listed above, saying they are going to leave the country, etc. You say Trump has no respect for women or immigrants, while they turn around and show Republicans no respect. So why do it? Being a hypocrite isn’t going to get you any farther in life and it sure isn’t going to change the results of the election. How about instead of saying how you hate Trump you give him a chance to see what he can do? Even Clinton said to give Trump and chance, and since you all support her so much why don’t you listen? The bashing isn’t going to change the election. It just won’t.So if you want to leave the country, by all means please leave. If you’re going to burn the American flag, then please don’t call yourself an American. How about instead we just take it a day at a time and see how it goes? Since you're all preaching about fairness and equality, start showing some.
