Let's Get Serious About Donald Trump

This isn't a joke anymore: 3 months from the primaries, Trump's chances look good

Let's Get Serious About Donald Trump

It’s been six whole months since Donald Trump first announced his bid for the 2016 presidential election and he’s still polling at the top of the pack. In fact, after the recent Republican debate on CNN, Trump is polling at a staggering 36 percent. Ben Carson, his closest competitor, received only 12 percent of the vote on that same poll.

When the reality TV star and real estate mogul announced his campaign, we all laughed. If there’s one thing Trump really succeeds at, it's inciting television drama. Whenever Trump participates in a debate, there is always one clear winner: the network on which the debate aired. Donald Trump on a debate is great for ratings—it’s almost guaranteed that he’ll say something outrageous at every appearance. He knows exactly how to create a buzz and get people talking, usually for all the wrong reasons. It would seem for Trump that any publicity is indeed good publicity.

But this isn’t a joke anymore.

With the Iowa Caucus, the official start of the 2016 primary elections, less than three months away, it’s safe to say Trump will win the Republican nomination. (Under normal circumstances, I would add a clause with something along the lines of “barring any scandals,” but these always seem to work out in Trump’s favor.) This means that Trump will be one of two men or women with a real chance at becoming the 45th President of The United States of America—the so called “Leader of the Free World.”

Let’s not forget that this is the man who was kicked off his own network for derogatory comments towards Mexicans. More recently, Trump’s proposed “Muslim Ban” has him being compared to Hitler, and even prompted the White House Press Secretary to pronounce Trump “disqualified” from being president.

So, we are going to reward his outlandish bigotry by…nominating him for president?

This would all make a lot more sense if Trump’s ideals really appealed to the conservative base, but most of his stances are moderately liberal, but with some bigotry and gun-craze thrown in.

Is bigotry all it takes to be appealing to the GOP base? While this is the same base that polled 30 percent in favor of bombing the fictional city of Agrabah, I would hope that they would pick a candidate that represents their actual core values and can adequately represent the country.

So, make sure you're not supporting Donald Trump just because he's entertaining, or because he's "edgy" and not "politically correct." This man has a serious chance of becoming the next president. Pick a more serious candidate.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
