It is so easy to coast through life, to stay in the cookie-cutter safe zone and never challenge yourself. But really everyone should take the time to let reality punch you in the gut and do something you never thought you could. Taking a risk and getting out of your comfort zone is one of the absolute best things you can do for yourself-- and here's why:
Learning. Learning is * three key emojis*. It's literally why we exist-- we are always being taught something; Hopefully to better ourselves, to expand our knowledge, to help us become who we are meant to be--the list goes on. When you challenge yourself you learn about qualities you never knew you had, or maybe you always had, you just didn't know how to share them.
This is obvious, if you take a risk you could fail, big time. And that's supah dupah awesome. And no, that's not a typo.
This means the risk is worth it. Going for something and failing doesn't mean you lose. It's ingrained in all of us that failing is a bad thing, of course sometimes it is, but every time you fail you learn something valuable. You learn to try a new route or that you actually suck at real life tennis so you should stick to the Wii.
The other day I was reading an article on a random website and they used the term "verbally pantsed" HAHAHA. Put yourself out there, maybe by taking a risk you'll get verbally pantsed, but if you do who cares? Just wear your best undies and ya know, work it.
Gosh, by taking a risk you are inviting the world to see the real you. Yeah, it's weird, you're probably thinking "Kaitlin you're not making sense, go eat a Snickers." But actually here's the hard truth: when you make the decision to stay in your happy little box, you're not bettering yourself. You're not giving yourself the chance to do new things and to discover the real you.
So challenge yourself. For one day be the annoying kid who answers all of the questions in class, stay the night in--for once--on a Friday night, apply for a job you know you won't get, ask your hip professor about internships, smile and wave *runs into wall* at good lookin' hunnies, chug that two liter of orange soda, dance by yourself in a corner, drive to Kansas on a weeknight, finish a pizza, try to drink a bottle of Ranch (not recommended), give knucks to people you barely remember meeting.
Let the risks you take shape you into who you want to be. Do it for yourself! Because you deserve it and you're more rad than dogs that can say "I love you".
