There is something so great about being vulnerable. About merging fear, courage and honesty into vulnerability and being open in the best way possible. It's what makes us human and allows us to relate to one another. But our society has begun to believe that we need to lead perfect lives as highlighted by social media. We filter and edit our experiences to portray them in the best ways. But doing this causes us to lose something, and that is this sense of genuineness and vulnerability.
It’s unmade beds. It’s when people are drunk and crying and completely honest in that moment. It’s the way people look when they first wake up and don't remember where they are. It’s the gasp people take when their favorite character dies. It’s these breakdowns, daydreams and honest moments that we fall in love with and that mean something to us.
And when we’re vulnerable, we realize that this world is so much bigger than our filtered and edited moments. It’s about who you are in these moments and enjoying them for what they are. It’s about truly living rather than just existing and feeling instead of just numbly experiencing.
So when the time comes for you to open yourself up, don’t be scared of it. Embrace it and be raw, as vulnerability is the true essence of beauty.
