Lessons I learned From "One Tree Hill"

We all have that one TV show that we cannot live with out. That show that your cried when it was over. You looked forward all week to the day it played. You binged watched it on Netflix, admit it, you did it more than once. The characters felt like your family. The most attractive character was your crush and the nicest character you wished was your best friend. You related to the characters and could feel their pain, their love, their happiness. What is my new show? "One Tree Hill." Not only did I fall in love with the characters and storyline, but also the lessons it taught me at the end of each episode and the quotes the characters said.

Here are some of the quotes from "One Tree Hill" that were either the voiceover at the end of the episode or a quote a character said to another character.

1. "There comes a time when every life goes off course. In this desperate moment who will you be? Will you let down your defenses and find solace in someone unexpected? Will you reach out? Will you face your greatest fears bravely or move forward with faith? Or will you succumb to the darkness in your soul?"

Yes, I have definitely faced this moment when my life went off course. I chose to take some time to process what happened and be sad about what happened, but I didn't let my soul succumb to darkness. I rose above the hardship and went back to the person I am.

2. "Passion unattended is a flame that burns to its own destruction."

I love this because it encourages people to attend to their passions, or else it will dissolve in itself. If I did not attend to my passion, dance, I do not know how I would survive.

3. "She showed me that you can find the good in everybody, if you just give them a chance. The benefit of the doubt. Sometimes, people disappoint you. Sometimes they surprise you. But you never really get to know them … until you listen for what’s in their hearts."

This taught me to give everyone a try, because you may find something different than you expected. Hear the hear the person out before you judge them.

4. "Truth is still absolute. Believe that. Even when that truth is hard and cold, and more painful than you’ve ever imagined. And even when truth is more cruel than any lie."

I learned that the truth is always better than a lie, even if it is more harmful. The truth is always the answer.

5. "But if you look closer, you might see someone like you. Someone trying to find their self. Sometimes it seems like you are the only one in the world who’s struggling, who’s frustrated, or unsatisfied, or barely getting by. But that feeling’s a lie. And if you just hold on, just find the courage to face it all for another day, someone or something will find you and make it all okay. Because we all need a little help sometimes. Someone to help us hear the music in the world, to remind us that it won’t always be this way. That someone is out there. And that someone will find you."

This quote proves my point earlier that the watchers of this TV show can relate to the characters. It also makes me feel like I'm not the only person in my world who is struggling. And it teaches me that will find that person that will make me feel like every thing will be okay. In fact I have already found that person and I will never let that person go.

6. "When all my dreams come true, the one I want next to me. It's you."

This makes me wonder who I love the most who I want to be there "when all my dreams come true." Who is that person for you?

7. "There are moments in our lives when we find ourselves at a crossroads...afraid, confused, without a roadmap. The choices we make in those moments can define the rest of our days. Of course, when faced with the unknown, most of us prefer to turn around and go back. But once in a while, people push on to something better. Something found just beyond the pain of going it alone and just beyond the bravery and courage it takes to let someone in. Something beyond the quiet persistence of a dream. Because it´s only when you´re tested that you truly discover who you are. And it´s only when you´re tested that you discover who you can be. The person that you want to be does exist, somewhere on the other side of hard work and faith, and belief and beyond the heartache and fear of what lies ahead."

I love that this quote states that "it´s only when you´re tested that you discover who you can be." I have been tested and the time I was tested was the time that I became who I am today. Also it teaches me that the best version of myself is in my future. When I am faced with the unknown I try my best to continue on and face my fears. Walk straight through the pain like feet walking through fire.

8. "I feel like we are connected somehow Nathan. Like we're the only two people on the planet trying to understand this. Well, maybe we can help each other through it."

I love this quote because it is between two characters who have nothing in common besides the hardships they are facing. And one of the character reaches out to the other and decides that they can get through their hardships together.

9. "When life comes at you out of the darkness, who will you choose to face it with? Will they be wise? Will their love for you help them to lead you to the light, or will they lose their way in the darkness? Will they make noble choices, or will that person be someone untested, someone new? Life comes rushing at you from out of the darkness. And when it does, is there someone you can depend on when it does?"

Yes there are many people I face my darkness with. And I can not describe how grateful I am for them. Someone new, someone old, someone wise, someone who loves me and leads me to the light.

10. "It’s the oldest story in the world. One day you’re 17 and planning for someday. And then quietly and without you ever really noticing, someday is today. And then someday is yesterday. And this is your life."

Life flies by, and that is what this quote teaches me. Don't take advantage of time, because before you know it, it will be gone. Time is the one thing you cannot get back. Cherish every moment. Love your life, and if you don't love it, change it because "this is your life."

11. "Most of our lives are a series of images, they pass us by like towns on a highway. But sometimes a moment stuns us as it happens and we know that this instant is more than a fleeting image. We know that this moment, every part of it, will live on forever."

I have many moments in my life that will live on forever. The moment I had my last dance recital at gotta dance. The moment i graduated for high school. The moment I became and adult in the Jewish religion. And all of the moments I shared with my mom dad and sister.

12. "At this moment there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world. Six billion people in the world. Six billion souls. And sometimes — all you need is one."

This is one of my favorite quotes because out of all the millions of people in the world, sometimes you just need that one person to make your life. That one person you can trust, love, rely on, and care for.

13. "First of all you don't know me. Second of all you don't know me."

This is one of the first times the main characters meet. I love that Peyton, the female protagonist, puts Lucas, the male protagonist in his place. She is honest with him and sticks up for herself. This also teaches me not to judge people because you never know who the person is and what goes on in their head and their life.

I hope you find your show that you fall so in love with that the characters become your inspiration. I hope you learn from their lives and make yours the best it can be.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
