Lessons From 'One Tree Hill's' Peyton Sawyer

The television series 'One Tree Hill' lasted for nine years, nine seasons, and 187 episodes on The CW/WB Television Network. The show stole the hearts of many young viewers across the country (including my very own) through its angsty, adolescent drama-filled installments. Of all of the characters that came and went in the show, Peyton Sawyer is by far the fiercest and most independent cheerleader to walk the halls of Tree Hill High. This strong-willed and determined woman lives for art and music, ultimately aspiring viewers to find their own passions and pursue them. Peyton doesn't shy away from the sass either; she tells it how it is. Here are a few P. Sawyer moments we could all learn from and embody.

1. Labels and assumptions about people are almost always off. Everyone has a unique story.

2. You don't need to rely on others. Learn to trust and live with yourself. After all, the relationship you make with yourself is the longest one you'll ever have.

3. Some people will try to weigh you down in life. That shouldn't change you or how you perceive yourself.

4. Stand up for yourself when people belittle, insult, or bully you. You don't need that kind of judgment or negativity.

5. Have faith in the future and inspire people through your passion. For P. Sawyer, music was her niche and avenue of expression for the world.

6. Don't measure your self worth by others' opinions of you. How you see yourself is far more important and valuable.

7. Being sassy is a perfectly acceptable way to respond to people who are rude or mean. Sarcasm and having a sense of humor work well too.

8. Address what bothers you. Asserting yourself gives others a sense of what you value and how you stand on the issue.

Peyton Sawyer serves as an inspiration for all!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
