18 Things I Wish I Could Tell 18-Year-Old Me
Ashley Denton

Looking back on when I was 18 I realized that I was so naive, things went right over my head.. lately i've been thinking if only i knew then what i know now. if I could go back and help guide 18 year old me, this is what i would tell her...

1. Community College Is JUST As Good As A Private School College

If I could go back and tell high school senior me about what i have accomplished in a Community College I would be utterly shocked and i would not believe myself... there are so many opportunity I have had open for me due to the fact that I go to a small community college.

2. The Boy Is Not Worth The Tears

You think you love him and that hes the one but trust me honey, he will eventually break your heart and trust me he is not worth the tears, you are young and beautiful and have so much to live for! you will find someone who is going to love you forever

3. Take Time To Spend With Your Little Brother And Sister

Just like you they will grow-up so fast, and soon you're going to miss them coming in and out of your bedroom...

4. Friends Will Come And Go

People are so temporary.

5. Your True Friends Will Stay, And You Will Quickly Learn Who They Are

They are the ones who may not have been there the longest but they are the ones you've never had to question their loyalty, you will find them. When you do, hold on to them and don't let them go... They are rare...

6. Call Grandma

Trust me she will appreciate it

7. Mom Is Just Trying To Protect You

I know, I know. Mom is super over protective and it seems like shes keeping you sheltered but trust me its only because she loves you soo much and she hates to see you hurt... I know it gets old real quick but trust me her intentions are in the right place.

8. The People You Thought Were "Popular" In High School Are Not Anything Special

As you get older you're going to see that "popularity" doesn't mean a thing after high school, and the girls you thought were "the most popular in class" are LITERALLY the same as you!

9. Don't Be Afraid To Let Loose

call off (occasionally ), go to the party and have the drink! You only live once so make the most of it!

10. Hard Work Will Get You Far

Trust me people will take notice...

11. You're Going To Change Your Major... Trust Me, It Will Happen.

Its inevitable...

12. Play And Love Your Pups Everyday!

Just like people pups grow up.. they may only be a part of your life but trust me you are their whole life.. You will miss them terribly when they are gone.

13. Buy The Shoes and Buy The Dress!

You'll get paid again...

14. You're Going To Fall On Your Face But Thats The Way You Learn.

You're going to fall and make mistakes, nobody is perfect at everything and thats ok. Just make sure to learn from your mistakes.

15. You Are Beautiful Just The Way You Are!

you may think that everyone is prettier than you but trust me hunny you are absolutely beautiful and you will break some hearts.

16. DON'T TAKE CRAP FROM ANYONE!!!

people will belittle you and they will think that they have control over you weather it be because of age or social status but they are not better than you, and you don't need to take any crap from anyone!

17. Don't Bite Off More Than You Can Chew

You're going to feel invincible like nothing can stop you, but once you stretch yourself so thin you will drive yourself insane! You will stress yourself out, and you will make yourself sick. Its not worth it. You are so young and have all the time in the world, so take your time and know your limits.

18. Everything Happens For A Reason

No matter what it may be, Everything happens for a reason. Gods got a plan that we don't know about.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
