I will start out by saying, if you are closed minded or spiteful in any way, you should probably stop reading this. Otherwise, read this with the open mind that you have because I want to offer you an alternate perspective.
It is no secret that the recent election results have sparked an incredible fire between the humans in our country—the Trump supporters against the Hillary supporters, and both sides throwing so much hatred at any person who will listen. We need to realize that we are ALL contributing to this massive fire. I take responsibility for my share of matches thrown in; I participated in a protest in Philadelphia on Wednesday night. While this contributes to controversy and hatred, it was a safe space for those who are so hurt from this result to speak their minds and release their negative energy.
But protests in cities across the country are not going to undo what has already been done. The decision has been made by the people around us. And you may be wondering, how can you be so adamant about this decision and still care about the female demographic, the LBGT community, the black community, and so many other groups that Trump is against? How can you make this decision and still look at us with love in your eyes?
The truth is, they can say the same things about people who supported Hillary. They can question your beliefs and morals just as much as we do to them. I am not going to target you for who you voted for. Whether you voted for Hillary, Trump, or Harambe, it does not matter. It's nobody's business but your own. The reality is that we are only humans, and humans all have conflicting opinions whether they are obvious or not. You are never going to agree on absolutely everything all the time. Imagine how boring this world would be if everyone had the same thoughts; we would be living in black and white, and I believe that opposites and differences allow us to live in a technicolor world.
The lesson that we've learned from this election is that every soul on earth needs kindness. We as a common people need to rise and take the high road in a time of such confusion and anger. When someone that I love judged me for my vote, I realized that I do not want to fight fire with fire, especially with the people that I care about. The person next to you needs a little more kindness than they did a couple of days ago, regardless of the mark on their ballot. Tell someone you love them today. Smile at someone new. This world is not going to survive on negativity. Fold up your anger towards others and send it to float down the river. There is no space for it here.
