The Legacy of Garry Marshall

On July 19, 2016, the world lost one of its most talented producers/directors/actors/writers, Garry Marshall. Marshall died due to complications of pneumonia at a hospital in Burbank, California. He left behind a legacy of iconic films and television shows that generations here and to come will love. Here is a list of 10 of my favorite films/ television shows that he has written/directed/ produced.

1. Mother's Day (2016)

One of Marshall's newest films, Mother's Day serves as the the third installment of his movies based on a specific holiday. This movie stars Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts and Jason Sudeikis along with many other stars.

2. New Year's Eve (2011)

New Year's Eve is the second installment of Marshall's movies revolving around a holiday. This movie stars Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Halle Berry, etc as it follows them around on New Years Eve. As all other movies such as this one, each character is somehow connected to the others in some way.

3. Valentine's Day (2010)

This movie was the first of the series that Garry Marshall directed. Similar to the other two of this fashion, it follows characters around as they celebrate Valentine's Day.

4. Georgia Rule (2009)

This 2009 film stars Jane Fonda, Felicity Huffman and Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay Lohan is a troubled teen who moves in with her grandmother (Fonda) after her mother's (Huffman) boyfriend has been sexually assaulting Lohan. This movie was one of Marshall's more raunchier films to date, as it was rated R.

5. Raising Helen (2004)

This 2004 film stars Kate Hudson, who portrays a single mom after her sister and brother-in-law die in a sudden car crash. The movie follows Kate Hudson's character as she adapts to life with three kids, the death of her sister, and dealing with an overbearing older sister who can't comprehend why her youngest sister was given custody of the three kids.

6. Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004)

Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews both return in this second installment of Princess Diaries. In this film, Anne Hathaway is ready to step up to the role of queen, however, there is one problem: she's single. In order to be queen, a queen must have a king. Anne Hathaway's character is torn between two men: the man she should have versus the man she wants.

7. Princess Diaries (2001)

In "The Princess Diaries," Julie Andrews comes to find her granddaughter, Anne Hathaway with some exciting news: she is princess of Genovia. The movie follows Andrews as she tries to create Anne Hathaway, an awkward teenager, into a poised princess.

8. Runaway Bride (1999)

This 1999 film is one of Gary Marshall's most iconic films to date. The movie follows Julia Roberts, who is notoriously famous for leaving men at the altar. As she meets Richard Gere, she is forced to come to the realization as to why she leaves men at the altar. Amongst this self-discovery, she falls in love.

9. Pretty Woman (1990)

This 1990 film stars Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in a modern update of Cinderella, a prostitute and a wealthy businessman fall in love, forming an unlikely pair. As they fall in love, they soon realize that there are many adversities to overcome when coming together from two separate worlds.

10. Happy Days (1970s)

Happy Days was one of the most iconic television shows in the 1970s created by Garry Marshall. The show ran from 1974-1984. The series revolved around Richie Cunningham and his family and friends.

As you can see, Garry Marshall created many iconic films that will stand the test of time. He has left behind his legacy that will go on for generations here and many generations to come.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
