Leaving Main St. For The Summer

"Wait this isn't happening right?"

Leaving Main St. For The Summer

Wait I’m confused. What the actual hell just happened? We’re leaving already? I feel like it was just tailgating season. Picking out the best going-out outfits (always choosing the wedges over anything practical because I guess being in a sorority wedges are the only option), freaking out about the cute frat boys who live on Main Street and curling our extensions to perfection. How do we have to say goodbye to Greek life for the summer already? Here on campus, Greek like is an oasis away from everything else, it’s our own type of community.

Well what a perfect year it was spent on Main I guess, Frat houses lined up, Friday night socials with the best sisters you could ask for while making memories I will never forget. Cheers to the amazing stories made in only a matter of months from these four blocks of straight srat and frat. For once in my life, I can say and probably vouch for everyone that no one is really looking forward to summer. Dreading to leave our college lives behind for a few months and go into our regular lives at home. For once I am begging for at least one more month, don’t make us leave this place. Just one more wakeup at 8 a.m. for a tailgate, or tanning on the Sorority house lawn, or even rollerblading to the frats to have a chill day when the weather gets nice. Don’t let us leave these things behind.

First semester was full of laughter, meeting cute boys, and a new family. Starting off with recruitment, meeting your new best friends, and slowly involving yourself into Greek life. School overpowering your mind and Lilly Pulitzer planner.

Second semester though ... You rocked my world. Like can’t everyone agree? Let’s be real here. Darty season comes back, the weather gets hot (well sometimes … thanks Michigan) our painted jugs come out from retirement from the fall, and everyone is coming out of their nasty winter hibernation. It couldn’t get any better. Driving down Main Street automatically you can spot some frat boys grilling some burgers, sorority girls laying out on the lawn, and music blaring so loud that you can hear it at the end of Main.

Second semester brought chubbies and tee shirt dresses and a lot of bonding. It’s full of frat guys who truly believe they are in the NFL showing off their skills on the front lawn, debating on skipping that econ class or automatically leaving 15 minutes in because “I literally can’t do this school thing anymore” since you’re currently watching the snaps from the party going on down the street at 2 p.m. Darty is now used in our everyday vocabulary thanks to second semester, but trust me no one is complaining.

Everyone should be able to agree that leaving Main Street for a long three and a half months just isn’t okay. Greek life has changed our college experience to be even more amazing than we thought it ever could be. Really soon we're all going to be hauling our over packed suitcases full of stolen goodies to our parents' cars, and take that last drive down those amazing few blocks of Main Street. Pointing at all the Fraternity and Sorority houses, reminiscing on all the amazing times we had this past year being so extremely proud to be a part of Greek life before making our last exit for home. Waving at everyone we see, screaming out the sun roof “I LOVE YOU ALL” (or most likely “ZETACHI” just for the hell of it) In these moments we will begin to realize that this is our home, and these people are more than just our best friends, they’re our family.

So thank you Main Street for the memories, the friendships, and the scars I have gotten from falling on your crappy sidewalks. See in you August for an even better year.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
