Leaving your high school sports team behind can be quite sad and even heartbreaking because you're leaving behind a family. These were the people who saw you cry, laugh, and even shed some blood because of the unavoidable injuries that come with them. I was a part of my Varsity Cheer Team at my high school for four years and even though I said I hated every second of it here, I am missing all of it a couple of months later. I miss my friends, the competitions, and working hard for one single goal.
I haven't left high school just yet, but I know that my high school team has left an impact on me forever.
You're going to miss your coaches no matter how demanding they can be or how many times they made you do something you're going to be thankful. You're going to miss the games or the competitions or the meets depending on the sport. You're going to miss knowing every single person inside and out on your team. There are going to be so many things that you're going to miss but at the same time you've also learned so many valuable lessons.
You've learned that it's possible to stand up one more time after you've fallen. You've learned that certain people become family no matter how much they tick you off. You've learned that bus rides are made for dancing and singing your lungs out. You've learned that it's not the end of the world when you don't get something right the first time around. You've learned so much that has made you the person you are today.
Being on a college team for a certain sport will probably be so different but it's a change for the good. You'll learn so many new things, but remember keep your home team close your heart. That team was there for you first on the best of days and on the worst. After leaving your high school sports team there is nothing left to do but to pursue that same sport in college, and continues to keep growing while remembering where you came from. I'll miss you guys. Long live LHSVC.
