Fall is upon us, and for many, that means turning a new leaf and making a change as we set our minds on colder nights and hotter coffee. It’s a season of bonfires, treat making, and refreshing our mindset. I want to renew my outlook on life, and that’s okay. It’s healthy and perfectly normal to want to make a change. Variety is the spice of life after all.
Sometimes, we make decisions that we may not necessarily want to make, but we know that they will benefit us in the long run. It’s like spring cleaning for your mind and life. This fall especially has been one of, in one word, chaos. I’ve made decisions to put priority on certain things in my life that I felt had been slipping away, but in turn, I had to give up some things as well. While it may have weighed on my heart, I know that I will feel better in the long run.
Wake up and look outside, everyone. Don’t you feel the morning air getting just a little cooler? The days are getting shorter, and soon enough, all those sappy Lifetime movies will be back in full swing. The season is changing, and maybe it’s a good time to think about your life. Are there things you’re missing in your life because you’ve set your tunnel vision to something else? Are there people who you have turned a bind eye to that you want to bring back into your life? It’s the holiday season, which is the perfect time to restart your giving heart.
Write a letter to a long-distance family member or a friend. Spend a little more time outside. Drink a new flavor of coffee or tea. Dig up some old photos and reminisce. Pick up a new hobby. Pray before you eat. Buy that book you’ve been eyeing in the bookstore. Cuddle with your pets. Write about your day in a journal. Re-organize your room. Set new goals for yourself.
Whatever it is that will gear you towards the new year, do that. There’s no time like the present, so why not get started? It’s okay if in the process of resetting yourself that you have to shut a few doors on the way; like the seasons, it’s a natural part of life. Change may be scary, but it is also can be a great thing. Let change motivate you, not hold you back. Be open to the idea of it, even if it scares you. Don’t be afraid of it because new ones will soon open up to you. You only get one life, so why not live the best and fullest one you can?
New seasons are always great for me, not only because of a change of wardrobe, but also a change of mind. Look towards this new season and smile. Behind each door, there’s a new adventure waiting to be uncovered, so discover what that adventure will be.
Leaves change. So do we. And that’s perfectly alright by me.
