Like most quarantine has had me bored out of my mind. At first, I was in a spiral where after finishing my online classes for the day the only things I would do were watch Netflix or scroll through TikTok. I had no other ideas until I started to notice how gross my nails were.
After ensuring that I had plenty of nail polish remover, cotton balls, and q-tips, I decided that even though I could barely paint my right hand I was going to attempt to paint my nails. My first attempt was rough, to say the least. Nail polish ended up all over my bathroom floor and I managed to get nail polish on almost every part of my finger. But I was determined to learn and figured that this quarantine gave me all of the time in the world to perfect this skill. After two months of trying I'm happy to say I've gotten to the point where my right hand looks almost as good as my left.
Teaching myself to paint my nails has honestly kept me sane throughout this ordeal in that it gave me a purpose to get off of TikTok and use my motor skills. I've come to the conclusion that everyone who misses getting their nails done should attempt to teach themselves to paint their nails.
It's a good distractor from the craziness going on in the world and if you're like me and have literally no ability to paint using their non-dominant hand, it's a great time-consumer. It's also a good skill to have because getting your nails done can be very expensive and painting your own nails is a much cheaper alternative.
So, what are you waiting for? Dust off that hot pink nail polish that you got in a party favor in 4th grade and start learning to paint!
