Of course we’re all familiar with the Lay’s Do Us A Flavor contest run every year. This is when potential contestants submit their chip flavor ideas in the hopes that theirs will get picked and win the million dollar prize money. But it looks like Lay's is up to something different this year. It’s called Flavor Swap. Two flavors are paired up and you vote for one of the two. One flavor is new, and the other flavor is old. The debate is, out with the old? Or go with what you know?
So what are the flavors in this toss up?
First voting round is all about cheese, between the flavors "smoked Gouda and chive" and "cheddar and sour cream." To be completely honest, I've had my fair share of cheddar and sour cream chips, and as much as I love them, this new cheesy idea makes me anxious to get this on the shelves. My vote this round goes to smoked Gouda and chive.
Next up is the barbecue round, Honey Barbecue or Korean Barbecue. This one is a toss up, honey BBQ adds a hint of sweet, while Korean BBQ adds a hint of savory. So it all comes down to personal preference. For me, I'm more of a sweets type of gal, so this round my vote goes to Honey Barbecue.
The third voting round is the kettle cooked chips. Olive oil and herbs, or sea salt and cracked pepper. You can get sea salt kettle cooked chips anywhere in any brand, so why not switch it up and replace it with olive oil and herbs? Easy decision (for me at least).
And finally, we have the fire round; fiery roasted habanero or flamin' hot. Flamin' hot sounds too general, flamin' hot what? Then again, habanero sounds too hot. My pick? This round I picked falmin' hot, habanero just sounded too hot for my sensitive taste buds.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to whatever the majority decides. While this contest isn't the most exciting, voters are eligible to win $25,000 for the entry, so you might as well try your luck.
