What The Last Day Of Summer Break Feels Like

The last day of break brings a mixture of emotions that makes us reflect on how quickly time has passed.

The humid air hangs still with no breeze to compensate for the unpleasant weather condition. Sweat collects on people's faces and necks as they do some last-minute shopping. The last day of summer break arrives suddenly like a slap in the face, but it's tough to bring yourself back to reality. You don't believe that school begins the next day and instead convince yourself that it's just a far-away dream that will never come. Having adjusted to a routine of your own rather than one that gets you to school on time is something you don't want to let go of anytime soon. Although the transition back to waking up earlier than you can imagine yourself being able to is tough, there's a small part of you that's ready to go back to school.

In one word, the last day of summer break is incomprehensible. If I look back at my previous years on the last day of summer break, I can't seem to remember much. It's a big day for students that's disguised as another passing day, and the next morning after you wake up, you feel that summer is suddenly gone. It was just a time period of being carefree and calm that was bound to disappear one day. But when you suddenly realize that today is the day that you're dragged back into a world of responsibilities and assignments, you wake up.

You can compare summer break to a dream in the sense that everyone experiences it differently, but when it's gone, you suddenly can't remember the smallest of details. You try your hardest to relive every second of your break that brought you happiness, but time moves on as you have to. Suddenly you look to the future and tell yourself that there are only nine months until you can go back to that dream and change it.

You have to rub your eyes because you don't remember the last time you woke up this early. All of the good memories that happened in the last two and a half months flew by so quickly that you have the smallest feeling that maybe you didn't spend enough time savoring the good moments. The first day of school is a mixture of emotions that includes excitement, anxiousness and dread. Although you feel this way every year before you take on your first day of a new school year, the same feelings come up and remind you that not being bothered by work will be gone for a while.

There's a small message that comes from the end of summer break. It's a bittersweet feeling to see summer break go, but it tells you that time is always passing. There are always new places to go, new memories to make and new feelings to experience. It's all a part of growing up, and while you may dread the journey to the next summer break, in the end, you'll reach the destination of being unbound to responsibilities for a bit.

But patience is key. And the journey to the next year can always be fun.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
